Autumn drink - recipe for warming Golden Milk.

Golden Milk Recipe

the golden drink from india

Autumn 🌿 It has rained all Sunday, the leaves have turned yellow and red and my feet are getting cold again in the evening. It really is autumn. The summer in which I felt so energetic and outward-looking seems a long time ago. Meetings with friends, going out together and living outside make way for cooking orange soups and playing games in front of the fireplace.

The trees drop their leaves to make the soil fertile again. So it is also a time of letting go and change. What can I learn from that, what can I let go? That tree does not stubbornly hold on to its leaves because it is afraid that it will need them again next year. It is good to go outside, even if it is bleak, to look at the sky and breathe deeply, because the lungs are the organs that belong to the autumn season in our body. And then feel what you can be grateful for, what have you harvested and what can you let go.

Recipe Golden Milk from Salland Yoga

During the bleak days of autumn we can use some warmth. A drink that you can use to stoke your internal fire is Golden Milk. The warming herbs in this are ginger and cinnamon, but the most important is turmeric, which gives Golden Milk its beautiful yellow (golden) color. In India, Golden Milk has been drunk for thousands of years for its medicinal properties. When I come home in the evening after yoga class, I curl up on the couch with a cup of Golden Milk made from oat milk.

Both Turmeric and ginger have an anti-inflammatory effect and stimulate good blood circulation. Cardamom is good for digestion and is rich in iron. In short, what are you waiting for?

For two cups of golden milk you need these ingredients:

  • 600 ml (vegetable) milk
  • 1 teaspoon ghee or coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder or 6 cardamom pods
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger (grated)
  • honey to taste
  • pinch of black pepper

How: Mix all ingredients and heat in a pan for a few minutes. If you use cardamom pods, remove them. Enjoy :)
