Chair Yoga Nieuwleusen
Chair Yoga – For Whom and Why?
The chair yoga classes are specially designed to be followed comfortably sitting on a chair and are particularly suitable for people who are (temporarily) unable to participate in regular yoga classes.
In these classes you don't have to sit on the floor on a yoga mat; instead we work on and around a chair, which always provides extra support.
In addition, the classes are very suitable for people recovering from knee, hip or other surgery.
During the lessons you will enjoy a relaxed pace, where we focus on loosening exercises, simple yoga poses, breathing exercises and relaxation exercises. This makes the lessons accessible and beneficial for a wide range of participants.
Why chair yoga?
Chair yoga is an accessible form of yoga that is specially designed for the elderly and people with (temporary) limited mobility. This gentle and effective form of exercise combines the benefits of traditional yoga with the use of a chair for support.
Chair yoga focuses on improving flexibility, strength, balance and overall health, while also addressing the physical limitations that older adults often experience.
It's a great way to stay active and experience the benefits of yoga, no matter your age or your physical or mental condition.

In this introduction I will tell you more about the benefits, basic principles and practice of chair yoga for seniors.
-
Improved flexibility and mobility: Chair yoga combines stretching with breathing. This helps keep joints flexible and muscles lengthened. This helps seniors increase their range of motion and perform daily activities more easily, such as bending over or twisting.
-
Increasing Muscle Strength: The yoga postures in chair yoga require muscular effort, which helps maintain or build muscle strength. This is essential for maintaining overall physical functionality.
-
Promotes balance and stability: Chair yoga also includes balance exercises that help improve stability. This is important to reduce the risk of falls in the elderly.
-
Stress Relief and Relaxation: Chair yoga also involves breathing exercises and meditation, which help in relaxation and stress reduction. This improves mental health and a sense of bliss.
-
Relief from pain and discomfort: The stretches and postures can help reduce pain and discomfort, especially in conditions such as arthritis and lymphatic dysfunction. Improved blood circulation also contributes to this.
-
Strengthening Respiration and Lung Function: Chair yoga involves breathing exercises that increase lung capacity and improve breathing. This is beneficial for overall health and energy levels.
